Having your product available on multiple platforms can be overwhelming for brands and often times, one might focus on one platform instead; however, having your product available on multiple channels means more sales and bigger consumer base.
There is no question that Amazon is the top shopping platform and every brand should have their products included in the Amazon catalog. But what about the other platforms: Walmart and Ebay? These two platforms are important in the inclusion of brands because there are many consumers who do not have prime memberships. Those who do not have prime memberships are often unfamiliar with how to purchase from Amazon and therefore, stick with Ebay or Walmart.
Walmart started their own version of Prime with no membership fee but with a required minimum purchase for the free 2 day shipping. This undoubtedly draws an audience to their service and with their well-known presence, consumers trust shopping from Walmart. Having your product included in Walmart's catalog will not only provide increased brand exposure, but also increased sales to a consumer group that would otherwise not have exposure.
Ebay is also another important advantage for brands. Often, brands stray away from Ebay due to unfamiliarity with the platform; however, the amount of consumers may sway a company. In 2018, there were 172 million active users. That is 172 million potential sales... and often repeat sales. Ebay is a great platform especially for niche brands. Tapping into a niche consumer group means increasing sales significantly.
Ebay is also no longer an auction only site. Most listings are buy now - meaning, no bidding required and consumer pay the asking price of a product. It works very similar to Amazon but without the requirement of a membership. Many consumers are loyal to Ebay and will only purchase through that platform.
In summary, the more platforms a brand has their products listed on, the higher the exposure to potential customers, and the greater the brand influence is.
